Message From President David Weinstein 

Shalom!

     Welcome to Temple Israel of Deland’s Website. Our Temple was founded in Deland 60 Years ago. Our doors have been open to all since then. We may be a small congregation, but we are a strong one. Our members come from many different backgrounds and places: some were born Jewish, some chose to be Jewish, and some are interfaith marriages.  All and all - we are family!
     Our beloved Rabbi, Reuven Silverman, fosters the warm, friendly, and nurturing atmosphere at Temple Israel of DeLand. Members and extended family alike embrace his genial nature and incessant dedication. I could go on about him but the best way to understand is to come to our Shabbat Services. Please accept this as a personal invitation to join us any Friday evening, stay for our Oneg, and see for yourself.
     As the elected President, I am looking forward to the next two years as a great learning experience. I have the advantage of three past Presidents sitting on our Board of Directors. I know I will find their wealth of knowledge and experience extremely helpful as I strive to keep our Temple strong and vibrant for future generations.
    This year we are going to finally achieve a goal that has been on the Boards’ Agenda for a long time - making our Temple handicapped accessible with a ramp and other changes. I cannot take all the credit for this, the groundwork started many years ago. Past presidents saw this need and together with our congregation we will see this happen.
